President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) congratulated Scott Morrison MP on his new assignment as Australian Prime Minister (PM), since Friday, August 24, 2018.

Not forgetting that President Jokowi also welcomed Indonesia, which was the first country visited by the Australian PM.

“This can be interpreted as a strong commitment of the new Australian government to continue to build a strong, mutually respectful and mutually beneficial relationship,” President Jokowi said at a press conference with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java, Friday ( 8/31) afternoon.

In the meeting between himself and PM Morrison, Indonesia’s commitment to continue to improve bilateral relations with Australia has been confirmed.

He stressed, Australia is one of Indonesia’s important partners in the region. The Head of State also added that Australia is also an important partner for ASEAN.

While several matters were discussed at the bilateral meeting, among others, the first was that Indonesia welcomed the improvement of relations from the Comprehensive Partnership to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The second, continued the President, Indonesia and Australia also stressed the importance of economic openness and efforts to strengthen mutually beneficial economic relations.

“In this connection we welcome the completion of the Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership substantive negotiations,” he said.

Third, the two countries also stressed the importance of respecting international law and respect for the sovereignty of each country.

And the fourth, continued the President, Indonesia and Australia also agreed to cooperate to continue to enhance cooperation in the security sector, including in the field of cyber security.

President Jokowi stressed, Indonesia and Australia have a high commitment to continue to collaborate in handling regional and world issues, including the eradication of terrorism. and continue communication about the development of the Indo-Pacific concept, as well as the Palestinian issue.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also welcomed the signing of 3 MoUs in the field of creative economy, cyber security cooperation, and cooperation in the field of transportation.
